Parents: Important Information About Parent Portal
WMS Announcements
Help WMS Win Prizes in Take the Dream School Challenge
NASSP is supporting the Dream School Challenge, an opportunity for Woodbridge Middle to win thousands in educational prizes. Please visit the Lifetime Network's The Parent Teacher Corner to vote for WMS. The winning school will receive free digital tablets, furniture, curriculum software, online professional development tools and more.  The contest ends June 8, so please vote!
Student Drop Off and Pick Up Policies
Parents are reminded that when students are dropped off in the morning, they are to drive to the far end of the drop off lane to have students enter the school.  Students are to remain in vehicles and not exit from cars at the set of doors located on the 'curve' of the parking lot as it jams up cars on York Drive.  In addition NO students are to be exiting cars that are parked on York Drive. Parents are to use only the designated area in school parking lot located on the side of the building nearest the baseball field/tennis courts.  All students are to remain in the parking lot area designated for car riders.

Parent Portal Registration Ending June 1
On Friday, June 1, Parent Portal registrations and online contact editing will be turned off.  In addition, no further registration or edits will be accepted until after the new school year transition.  On Monday, June 18, all updates to Parent Portal will stop and no further data updates will be sent to School Fusion until the new school year.  Lastly, Parent Portal will not be updated with Summer School information and no Summer School information will be sent to School Fusion.
Bowl America's Rolling Rewards Honor Roll Program
Students may bring their final 2011-2012 report card into any Bowl America location, and are awarded a free game for each "A or "B" (or the equivalent grade) earned over the course of the entire school year.

WMS Represents at NASSP Conference
Principal Mr. Calhoun and Assistant Principal Mrs. Owens, along with a team of WMS teachers attended the NASSP Conference in Tampa, Florida March 7 -11.  Woodbridge Middle's representation was especillay signifcant this year, because it had recently received the honor of being a Breakthough School, only one of handful of schools each year in the United States to receive this honor.  Partipants attended numerous sessions on building leadership capacity, enhancing school culture, and improving student performance.  More details can be read here.

Single Gender Program
Woodbridge Middle School is proud to offer same gender classes.  Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students have the option of same gender classes for science, social studies, math, and language arts.  Parents are given the opportunity to opt students in as a part of the standard class selection form.   Students are enrolled by selecting Same Gender classes when making course selections.  In addition, parents have the option of transferring their son/daughter in from other schools, as long as they are able to provide transportation both to and from school.

For information feel free to e-mail Skyles Calhoun,
WMS principal, at calhousa@pwcs.edu.  Research has shown that there are tremendous differences in how boys and girls learn. Teachers who are trained to teach the way boys and girls learn best can increase the rate of academic achievement.  Our staff has been trained by one of the leading experts in the field, Dr. Leonard Sax, author of Why Gender Matters:  What Parents and Teachers Need to Know about the Emerging Science of Sex Differences

For further information about this fascinating research, you may wish to visit www.singlesexschools.org.  This website is hosted by the National Association for Single Sex Public Education (NASSPE).  Dr. Sax is the founder of this organization.

Riding the School Bus is a Privilege
Riding the School Bus is a privilege offered by Prince William County Schools, not a requirement of the school division. Disciplinary infractions violating PWCS Code of Behavior may include a loss of the privilege of bus transportation until the parent, bus driver, and school principal can arrive at an understanding which will correct the problem. Parents will be responsible for the transportation of students who have lost school bus transportation privileges.
